Used Tires will be Collected September 29, 2018 in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PA – Cumberland County residents can dispose of car and truck tires at a collection event Saturday, September 29, 2018 in East Pennsboro Township.

Preregistration and prepayment are required for the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the township public works facility, 645 Tower Road, Enola.

The disposal fees are $2 per tire for car or truck tires (on or off rim) and $7 per tire for tractor-trailer tires. Large agricultural tires and tires from commercial operations will not be accepted.

The Cumberland County Vector Control Office will host the event in partnership with PA CleanWays of Cumberland County, an affiliate of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. The goal is to provide residents with an affordable option for disposing of unwanted tires and help eliminate illegal dumping and littering.

“Tires that are improperly disposed of contaminate soil and water with toxic chemicals and serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of West Nile virus and Zika virus,” said John Bitner, Chief of the County Vector Control Office. “Recycled tires can be used in mulch, landscaping borders, athletic turf and more. Tire recycling is good for our citizens as well as the environment.”

Registration begins August 20, 2018 and ends September 26, 2018. Credit card and check payments will be accepted.

To register, contact Stephanie Larson, Program Coordinator at Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, at 724-836-4121, extension 104. Registrations will be accepted weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
