The Supervisors of North Newton Township are accepting applications from township residents to serve on the following advisory boards.

North Newton Township Planning Commission – Reviews subdivision and land development plans and makes recommendations on those plans to the Board of Supervisors. The Planning Commission meets monthly, as needed. The term of service is four years beginning January 2020 through December 2023.

North Newton Township Advisory Recreation and Parks Board (Park Board) – Serves to identify the park, recreation, open space and trail needs of the Township and advises the Board of Supervisors in regards to such needs. The Park Board meets on a monthly or as needed basis. Terms of service are for five years. Currently a vacancy exists with three years remaining in the term.

The North Newton Township Planning Commission meets the third Monday of each month, as needed, at 7:00 p.m. at the Township Park Community Room, 528 Oakville Road, Shippensburg. In January and February, the meeting date is the Tuesday following the third Monday, due to Federal holidays. The Planning Commission reviews subdivision and land development plans and makes recommendations on such plans to the Board of Supervisors. The Planning Commission duties are outlined by the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code Act of 1968, P.L. 805, No. 247, as reenacted and amended. The North Newton Township Board of Supervisors encourages Planning Commission members to take advantage of training workshops periodically available through the Cumberland County Planning Department or other agencies. The North Newton Township Advisory Recreation and Parks Board serves to identify the park recreation, open space and trail needs of the Township and advise the Board of Supervisors in regards to such needs. Terms of service are for five years. Currently a vacancy exists with three years remaining in the term. Meetings are scheduled on the fourth Tuesday of each month, January through October, at 7:00 p.m., but are only held as needed. The Park Board meets at the Township Park Community Room, 528 Oakville Road, Shippensburg. A full description of the duties of the Park Board are outlined here.
